Administrative HistoryAn ancient chapelry in the Lancashire parish of Prescot, originally dedicated to St Wilfrid until its rededication to St. Luke. In 1859 it became a parish church, serving the Lancashire townships of Bold, Cronton, Cuerdley, Ditton, Great Sankey, Penketh, and part of Widnes. St. John's Mission opened in 1914 and closed in 1942. Farnworth was transferred from Lancashire to Cheshire in 1974. For later records, see also the parishes of Great Sankey and Widnes St. Ambrose.
